Places in Bucharest... Explained for Children
Asociația Planeta Creativă

Are you ready for a journey through Bucharest, but also through time?
Dana Manolache's book, with colourful illustrations by Nayeli Estrada, takes you on a guided tour like no other. Each place is a huge picture, full of details, where you have to search, discover and count!
Where do you stroll?
🍰 Casa Capșa – in an elegant confectionery from the Belle Époque era, where boys wear sailor suits, like Caragiale's D-l Goe. Can you count all the cakes: savarins, amandines, éclairs, diplomat, cremșnit and the famous Joffre?
📚 University of Bucharest – a building cut in slices, like a giant doll's house, where you can see faculties, laboratories, maps and even an Egyptian sarcophagus!
📰 Palatul Universul – a street from 1930, with carriages, motor cars, soldiers on guard and a boy shouting the latest news.
🏢 Palatul Parlamentului – here you travel through time: from bottom to top, from the 23 August parade in 1980 up to 2020. Alongside gymnasts and pioneers, rumour has it that some ghosts also roam through the palace. Can you find them?
🕯️ Cimitirul Bellu – “The Garden of Souls”, where beautiful statues, unusual graves and friendly spirits tell you stories about famous people.
🎭 Comuna Brănești – just 20 kilometres from Bucharest, where the cuci with colourful masks, ribbons and bells preserve a tradition as old as anyone can remember.

Why will you love it?
Because history is no longer just in textbooks. It is an adventure to explore together, with family or with friends, where you learn new things without realising it. And after you have read the book, you can head out into the field and see the real places!
